WebJan 1, 1996 · An active dressing aims to establish an optimum microenvironment for healing the wound. It must maintain the wound temperature and moisture level, permit respiration and allow epithelial migration. Optimal wound temperature is required for the function of cells such as macrophages, neutrophils and fibroblasts. Webwound dressing selected must provide optimum conditions for these healing processes to take place. Tertiary Intention Healing Wound closure is delayed to allow for reduction in exudate and swelling. Once exudate and swelling reduced the wound edges are brought together.
