WebI think a big part of this trope relies on the female character being able to excuse the jerk's actions as 'not really his fault'. It's creepy out of context but it seems to work. His anger isn't his fault, his father was an abusive alcoholic. His playboy habits and disrespect for women aren't his fault, his mother was a whore. WebSpeaking of Lost, this trope also belongs to UnFlocke. Manipulative Bastard? Check. And as The Candidate shows, he is one hell of a Chessmaster ( even if it didn't work fully, it was still a badass plan). The way he manipulated Ben to kill Jacob was just classic. I would say Sawyer counts as well.
